Obstetrical grip as method to determine position presentation & engagement (doctor right side) (Moths dorsal recumbent position)

(1) Fundal Grip (First Leopold):- (Fetal pole in fundus)

Ask the mother to empty the bladder

Warm hands & apply them to the mothers abdomen with firm & gentle pressure

First Leopold or Moreover determine which part of the fetus in the fundus.

Place palm on each side of the upper abdomen & palpate around the fundus

Feeling a hand, sounded movable object- head

Feeling a soft irregular shape-Buttocks

(2) Lateral or Umbilical Grip (Second Leopold) :- (Getal lic)

Move hands down wards over each side of the abdomen applying firm pressure.

Feeling of smooth, cured & hard surface = back

Irregular knob & lumps = Hands, Feet, elbows, knee

(3) First Pelvic Grip (Fourth Leopold) :-

Done in the late stage of pregnancy to determine how for the fetus has descended in to the pelvic inlet

Place hands on the sides of the lower abdomen cloze to the midline 

Slide ands down ward & in ward

If you have determined that the buttocks are in the fundus than for the head.

If you can not feel the head it probably has descended

Engagement is confirmed

(4) Second Pelvic Grip/Pawlik Grip/Third Leopol :- (First time use single hand is these)

If confirms fetal position

Place hand above symphysis pubis

Bring thumb & fingers together & greasy the part of fetus between them (Mrg be the head or buttocks)

First time use of single hand is there

Fetal descant and position is confirmed buy this grip

S.Point:-

LM-1 – Identify which fetal pole occupies the fundus

LM-2 – Performed to determine the fetal lie

LM-3 – Determined if the presenting part is engaged.

LM-4 – Readily differentiates the anterior shoulder. (How far fetus)
